:-) I think I run both:

        libmysqlclient6 3.22.30-3
        mysql-client 3.23.33-1
        mysql-server 3.22.32-4
        mysql-gpl-doc 3.22.30-2

`mysql --version` gives 3.23.33 :-)

I should probably upgrade the server...

I take it that the problem was my server version. :-)

I missed that.  But it would be helpful to provide an instruction on
how to find out the versions needed.
