Check the config.pm for the external auth options. After you've turned
them on, you can use anything you like from within the Apache
configuration, RT just doesn't care for passwords anymore.

There are dozens of apache modules out there which can do authentication
for you: based on Postgres, MySQL, LDAP, PAM, NTLM, whatever.  Locate
your preferred module on http://modules.apache.org/. Check the
appropriate module documentation how to install and use it.
