Yes, this would be very interesting.
 From the talk Stefan Wintermeyer (OTRS) gave at LinuxTag 2003 I drew the 
conclusion that they (OTRS) move tickets into another DB regularly, so that 
the "production system" stays performant.
(At least for their "big" customers) 

How does RT handle growing databases ?
