I have wondered the same thing.

So far, I've had success by reading:

perldoc /opt/rt3/lib/rt/Modulenamehere.pm

Also, keep searching the RT wiki.  There is a ton of jewels in there.  I 
have found some snippets of information regarding module functions on 
the wiki.
Finally, keep reading people's scrip examples....they shed a lot of light.
