Yes, I figured that out eventually... I'm so used to cron-based (my fetchmail.sh) scripts to read directly from config-files or databases, that I overlooked the fact that mailgate posted everything to the http-service *bluss*

Did you restart apache? Changes to RT_SiteConfig don't take affect until 
a restart of the web service.
