It does not natively handle MD. A quick google did not yield any MD<br>
extensions for RT.<br>

It looks like there are JS MD editors - though I am not sure how much<br>
effort it would take to make an extension that uses them. Perhaps just<br>
a jquery call to change the textarea.<br>
