Sometime ago I reported a similar problem when trying 2 co in Win2003 a rev created in XP that had accented files. I had copied the depo over, so it was fille:// access

I don't know how relevant this is but, I have seen this with a Linux straight 
SVN client working with commits made by a windows client with accents. 

My guess is that the log message is not in a (for the client) decent encoding 
and it bombs out on trying to parse it.
