The question is, HOW did you update Perl?

I've literally just finished speaking to someone in #rt on irc.perl.org 
who is using CentOS and did an rpm upgrade of perl which totally trashed 
Mason and gave him a different error.

The solution for him (and may be for you if the same applies) is to not 
let Red Hat Incorporated determine how perl should be written configured 
and installed and install from CPAN insted.

`cpan -i HTML::Mason` solved this guy's problem and it may solve yours.
