I have noticed that, in times of MySQL errors, that RT drops emails. Our logs show the Email going through to the command, but the Perl interface simply dumping some stuff back out to STDERR that qmail dosen't pick up on. Therefore, when the MySQL database is unreachable, all Emails to the system are just dropped into the bitbucket since qmail thinks the command completed successfully. I spent a while cruising around the usual places and haven't found any programs already written to handle this on the public sites anywhere. My question to the list would be, has anyone else noticed this issue and perhaps written a script to catch Emails in the event the RT Email gateway reports fatal errors? If not I'd be more than happy to hack one together and post it up on the list somewhere. It is also a possible feature that RT 2.0 might want to encompass. If, for some reason, the DBI/DBD drivers fail to connect or run a required query, that they dump the message contents to a file somewhere that can be manually imported into the RT system later by an admin once the DB Error has been fixed. -R -- .----------------- PGP Key: `finger gashalot at gashalot.com` -----------------. | Robert Gash | Work - gashalot at fasturl.net | | Senior Systems Administrator | Personal - gashalot at gashalot.com | | VenerNet Inc -- www.fasturl.net | http://www.gashalot.com | `---- PGP Key Fprint: 78 5D 64 D2 99 F3 D8 A0 B2 56 DF EF F2 C6 D3 DF ----' From tobiasb at pallas.eruditorum.org Fri Jun 2 00:14:14 2000 From: tobiasb at pallas.eruditorum.org (tobiasb at pallas.eruditorum.org) Date: Fri, 2 Jun 2000 00:14:14 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [rt-users] Anyone that needs a hand? It will of course prevent others in having headaches and wasting time explaining those problems. Anyway, I guess it's really a detail, and I think it's the authors responsibility to add some output lines about the failed tests anyway. Strange though, that the RT list gets more feedback than the MySQL list about this. I guess it's because RT1 is using the emulation and not DBI. RT2 is using the DBI. > What do I need to do? You'll just use the perl debugger to find out why the test fails. If you don't know how to do it, then don't bother ... just send a mail to msql-mysql-modules at lists.mysql.com or Jochen Wiedmann complaining about this thing :) -- "The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt." - Bertrand Russell From jesse at fsck.com Mon Jun 5 14:13:44 2000 From: jesse at fsck.com (Jesse) Date: Mon, 5 Jun 2000 14:13:44 -0400 Subject: [rt-users] RT 1.0.3 is out Message-ID: <20000605141344.V21080@pallas.fsck.com> Over the past few months, there have been a few very minor bugfixes to RT1.0. More information will follow, but we wanted to nail down a date and start collecting RSVPs. RT Developers from around the world (Ok, well, at least one from the US, one from Norway and one from the Czech Republic) will be coming together to chart the future of RT later this month in Pilsen, Czech Republic. Sponsorship ----------- Jan Okrouhly is coordinating things in Pilsen. EurOpen.cz has graciously volunteered to arrange and sponsor the meeting. Who should attend ----------------- While the meeting is aimed at the more technical members of the RT community (the hackers) we'll adjust things based on attendance. There should be something for just about everyone involved with RT there :) Accomodation ------------ Check out http://www.zcu.cz/plzen/where/accommodation.html for accomodation. It will also be possible to sleep cheaply at the students hostel. RSVP ---- If you could please RSVP to rtcon at fsck.com as soon as possible if there might be a possibility that you can attend, we'd appreciate it a whole lot. Message-ID: <393FADE0.96422B0C@planetwe.com> Hi, I would like to be able to change the subject of the autoreply message that RT sends when a user sends a request. I understand that taking the serial number out of the subject is a bad thing, so I'm willing to leave it there. What I would like to do, is rather than reply using the subject of the original message, change the subject to something like "we have recieved your request", but still keep the original subject for use in the body of the email and as the subject of the request in the database. I assume that somewhere the subject of the autoreply is set via the apropriate variable, thus simply removing that variable and inserting the constant string we would like should work? Am I correct in thinking this? If so, where would I need to do this? If I'm not correct, is there a way that this can be done that differs from what I'm thinking? I think the right place to search is lib/rt/database/manipulate.pm, there is one sub for every action (including "create request"), and all of them call the sub for sending mail. You just remove this mailsending behaviour from all the other subs. It was 1st of June. Obviously that's broken by now (eventually, maybe it will be finished in one year ;) Seriously - it's too many factors to estimate - it depends mostly on how many hands we can get on it. At the moment, Jesse is very busy (actually he's even at vacation at the moment), so it's only me that is hacking at RT2 at the moment. I'd daresay that there is not much left than stabilizing, getting the installation more smoothly, fix up a lot of minor bugs, fix a lot of minor features that are missing, and get the ACL working before we can release. Yes. You'll get this result if you pass zero (or a low number) to a date function that expects unix time in seconds. Sometimes this can be caused by a bad time-of-day chip on your computer, or by a date field in a database being null. I'm not sure what the exact problem is in rt, it could be entirely installation specific. Is the date set properly on your machine? _Michael. -- Michael Jastremski .. RT is almost exactly what I was looking for, except for the following issue: I need to set up RT for use by several independent groups of people. Each group should be able to administer things for themselves. Is there any way, short of installing RT multiple times in separate directories, to allow multiple groups to use RT with their own sets of queues? Each group would want to have administration privilege for their own set of queues. Should I just give each group only 1 queue, and then let them use subject/area to categorize tickets? It's not as flexible (i.e., SF-Finance might need a different membership list than SF-Recreation) Or should I install RT one time for each different group (messy!)? Or is there a better way? That paragraph in the users guide now says: The most common way to reply to a message is to use email. To do this, simply reply to an RT message or create a new message with the following string in the subject: [-comment which calls rt-mailgate with comment rather than correspond. When you want to comment on requests, > send the mail to that alias. I see a way for people to shoot themselves in the foot there. Basically, user A wants to comment, and mungs the destination address of his mail to the comment address. RT sends it out to all queue members with the queue's e-mail address as sender, and user B wants to followup on that comment and dashes off a quick reply. It gets sent back to the requester, and now A and B both have egg on their faces and B had better run out the door quickly before A makes it over to his cube. IMHO the global config should have a "comments" address field, and use that as the from address when mailing comments to the queue members. There should be no need for a per-queue address since comments would always be on existing tickets. Presently I'm kneedeep in an RT installation; I like it muchly, but I and various cow orkers are finding bit and pieces we'd like to do a bit differently. I'm starting to put together a shopping list and collection of proposed patches and hope to have something for the list soon. Will there be another 1.0.x release, or has 2.0 branched off already? The permissions on the /usr/local/rt/lib/generic_templates directory are wrong. You have to chown -R it to rt:rt, chmod 755 the directory, and 644 the files within. Currently it cannot be read to copy the generic templates over to the new queue template directory. You have to do this every time you 'make upgrade' or it'll break again. I've been meaning to patch the Makefile for ages but never got around to it; ill mail the diff here if/when I do. -- Anil Madhavapeddy, From jesse at fsck.com Thu Jun 29 20:40:29 2000 From: jesse at fsck.com (Jesse) Date: Thu, 29 Jun 2000 20:40:29 -0400 Subject: [rt-users] Installation Problems: In-Reply-To: ; from anil@recoil.org on Fri, Jun 30, 2000 at 01:20:11AM +0100 References: <20000629200726.T24147@pallas.fsck.com> Message-ID: <20000629204029.U24147@pallas.fsck.com> I believe you just need to chmod things. the ownership shouldn't matter.
