I had this same thing when I upgraded my apache server.
A make clean and/or make distclean in mod_perl, apache and php and a
reconfigure, make of everything helped.
Ofcourse the backup before make install, saved my ass.

Subject: [rt-users] RT Reinstall: Apache core dump

I installed RT, after reformatting my freebsd 4.5 machine....

The install went well, I installed all the moudles via cpan, however, I
add this to the httpd:

<VirtualHost *>
DocumentRoot /usr/local/rt2/WebRT/html
ServerName webrt.pwhsnet.com
PerlModule Apache::DBI
PerlFreshRestart On
PerlRequire /usr/local/rt2/bin/webmux.pl
<Location />
SetHandler perl-script
PerlHandler RT::Mason
</Location>
</VirtualHost>

and I try to start apache and I get:

apollo# ./apachectl start
Segmentation fault - core dumped
./apachectl start: httpd could not be started
apollo#

Heres some information:

RT 2 {current version}
Server Version: Apache/1.3.24 (Unix) mod_perl/1.26 PHP/4.2.0 FreeBSD
4.5-RELEASE

I'm also using my old MySQL databases !
