Is it usual to have to reconfigure things so that creating a ticket does not produce the 'mysql server has gone away' message? MySQL can be connected to using the 'mysql' command program, and RT 344 only seems to have problems creating tickets, nowhere else (relevant)

mysqld Ver 4.1.9-standard for pc-linux-gnu on i686 (Official MySQL RPM)
Perl 5.8.7
Mod_perl 2
Apache 2.0.3
