That didn't help much, but I eventually figured it out. Several of the

  $query = shift || $self->Argument

since a simple query for only a custom field meant $query would be
empty after I'd
gleaned my custom syntax from $query :-P

Anyway, 0.04 coming out soon with bug fixes and painless install.
