You, sir, are a paragon of RT genius!

I did indeed miss the UPGRADING.mysql instructions, and I did, in fact, most definately need them.

That solved my problem and now I can stop pulling my hair out.

I think you have to read UPGRADING.mysql instructions. In mysql
console run "show create table sessions;" and if it has LONGTEXT then
you definitelly must read that file.
