I think my real problem has to do with trying to use perl 5.61 in spite
of the warning.  This is a RedHat 7.3 box and I was hoping to stick to
RPM and CPAN updates but now I see error messages landing in
/var/log/messages that probably stem from unicode conversion issues.
I guess I'll try it under RH 9 with fastcgi next.  Or is there a
painless way to get perl 5.8 and a matching mod_perl into 7.3?
