[rt-users] share/html/Elements vs. var/mason_data/obj/standard/Elements

Hello,
 
I need to change some RT templates. I wonder which of the two
directories is the best place to do that.
Also, can anybody clarify why we have these two similar directories. In
my understanding, files in the 
var/mason_data/obj/standard/Elements are created by scripts from
share/html/Elements, is that correct?
If so, what stage they are being created on?
