You'll want to use a newer Postgres.  7.4.1 is out now and very stable. 
  It offers a *significant* improvement in many aspects.  At least use 
7.3.5 if you're not ready for 7.4.

Do you have the Postgres libpq installed on the client machine?  
DBD::Pg uses it.  Also note that DBD::Pg 1.31 (the current on CPAN) has 
a serious flaw that causes it to dump core.  I'd stick with the prior 
release (1.22) for now.
